Conviction 18 - Committed to Raising-Up and Sending Missionaries

Our desire is for CrossWay to be known as a missionary sending church. Why? Is that some badge of honor? Is that some popular thing for the church to do? Why? Here’s why – God’s mission is to rescue a people for the praise of His glory from every tongue, tribe, nation, people, and language and the church is the agency by which God is rescuing a people. We want our mission and our priorities to align with God’s mission and God’s priorities.

CrossWay Missionaries

Our current commitment is to support missionaries who are raised-up and sent out of CrossWay. We are not looking to build a portfolio of mission partners who are supported by another primary sending church. This is not because we don’t believe in what they are doing or because we think we can do it better, it is simply a desire to have a larger and more meaningful partnership with fewer missionaries rather than a smaller and meaningless partnership with dozens of missionaries.

Now, should the Lord raise-up and send out dozens from CrossWay, we will trust that God will give us the resources and wisdom to know how to make those partnerships meaningful.

The Next Generation

We see this commitment to raise-up and send out missionaries from CrossWay as a long-term commitment and therefore a long-term investment. Part of our desire is not only to call every existing member of CrossWay to a costly commitment to the gospel that may result in foreign missions, but to ask you to consider raising-up, envisioning, and sending your children into the foreign mission field.

Too often the desires and goals we have for our children are too small, and too insignificant, and too worldly. Instead of encouraging our children to get a great education so they can attend an influential college, so they can live in a large home in the suburbs, let us encourage our children to give themselves to something of eternal significance – preaching the gospel where Christ has not been named.

The Priority – Unreached Peoples

Our priority when sending people out from CrossWay is to send them to unreached people groups. We believe that this is a better investment of your time, of financial resources, and it is of greater priority. It is a significant investment to send someone from the U.S. into a country where they need to learn the language and the culture, and establish relationships before they can even begin helping.

Yes, there are many countries where the church is floundering, but what they need is not our people as much as our support. The best way we can support countries where the church is in decline is to come alongside of indigenous pastors to pray for them, encourage them, equip them, and support them financially.

CrossWay’s Commitment

Our commitment to those from CrossWay who are considering foreign missions is to walk through a calling process to see if God does indeed have a call on your life, and to see if you are at a stage of your life and level of maturity to go into the mission field. We are also committed to helping you find an unreached people group to work among, a team to work with, and a sending agency. Finally, it would be our joy and privilege to support you financially.

CrossWay Exists

CrossWay exists to raise-up and send missionaries from our own congregation to preach the gospel to unreached peoples. We ask you to consider going into foreign missions and to raise-up your children with this priority on their lives. We also ask you to support missionaries from CrossWay with your prayers, finances, and words of encouragement.
