Some would say it is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Others would say it is to evangelize the nations. Still others would say it is to change the very fabric of our culture. Of course, it is a many faceted answer, but at the heart of the church’s existence is the glory of God.
But it’s not just the church that exists for the glory of God. All things exist for the glory of God. We believe that God created the world, and everything in it, God created all things for the praise of His glory. Look at just a small sampling of verses from the book of Isaiah.
Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing. Isaiah 40:26
...that men may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it. Isaiah 41:20
"I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." Isaiah 43:6-7
"Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the Lord have created it." Isaiah 45:8
"I made the earth and created man on it; it was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host. I have stirred him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways level; he shall build my city and set my exiles free, not for price or reward," says the Lord of hosts. Isaiah 45:12-13
For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): "I am the Lord, and there is no other." Isaiah 45:18
God created all things for the praise of His glory. He alone is the Sovereign Creator of the world. All of creation belongs to Him. All of creation exists for His glory. He alone deserves our worship, and praise, and adoration. At the heart of CrossWay's mission is the glory of God.
