Conviction 4 - God's Mission of Redemption

What is amazing is that God foreknew that humanity would reject Him and His glory. Humanity’s rebellion did not catch God by surprise. God knew before the foundation of the world that mankind would rebel against Him.

Redemption from Eternity Past

God planned from eternity past to rescue a people, from the guilt of their sin, and for the praise of His glory. This is the mission of God. It is foreshadowed in the Old Testament and it is made explicit in the New Testament. God promises to redeem His people from Egyptian slavery.

Say therefore to the people of Israel, 'I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. -Exodus 6:6

The Levitical Laws are built on a foundation of redemption.

If your brother becomes poor and sells part of his property, then his nearest redeemer shall come and redeem what his brother has sold. If a man has no one to redeem it and then himself becomes prosperous and finds sufficient means to redeem it, -Leviticus 25:25-26

The prophets predict God’s coming redemption.

I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless. -Jeremiah 15:21

In the New Testament God explicitly says He planned our redemption from eternity past.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, -Ephesians 1:3-7

God’s mission from eternity past was to redeem a people for the praise of His glory. CrossWay exists as a redeemed people of God. We exist for the praise of God’s glory. We exist to align ourselves with God’s mission to redeem a people. We exist to tell others of God’s rescue mission, for their good, and for God’s glory.
