Founded on the Rock

"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who builds his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock."
—Matthew 7:24-25

Rock is hard. Rock is firm. Rock withstands pounding and stands strong. Being here, in a place where some of the great parables and metaphors of Jesus' teaching may be even more visually relatable, our eyes are opened and our hearts refreshed.

"The Lord is my Shepherd..." We've met shepherds here, and have watched them guide their flocks with great care. But the rock—oh the rock... How this metaphor has come to life!

The stone church building in Masaw'a now has 23 windows hung; none of which fit their rough openings (some off by as much as 5 inches around). Our hands ache from chiseling, but what a sweet reminder as we worked for 3 days chiseling this house of the Lord. As this structure will stand as a place for this community to worship for generations to come, how much greater is the Lord, our Rock.

We are all back at Scott now, settling in for the night. Tomorrow we'll be visiting a local hospital in Machakos to deliver some of the medical supplies that were donated, and will be making preparations for our trek home. It is a surreal feeling as our time here draws to a close...
