David,I sent Paul a follow-up asking him why the community was not doing this before and this is Paul's response.
I just want to give you brief update about our community outreach programs in the vicinity of the PTC Center.
We continue to lead the people in the clean up drive to prevent breeding of dengue carrying mosquitoes. We have launched the Re-greening project and have influenced some of our neighbors to do vegetable gardening.
Attached are some pictures.
Blessing to you my dear friend.
Paul
David,First, they lack initiative. The main reason is that the people wait for the community leaders (barangay officials) to lead them, but most of the community leaders have no time to lead the people because they have to work to feed their families.
Second, they lack knowledge. They don't give importance to the issue of prevention. They'd rather react when their is outbreak of dengue instead of preventing the cause of dengue. One author wrote " an average mind react to the situation, an intelligent mind solve the situation, but the genius prevent the situation".
Third, they lack money. Though some of them want to do outreach programs too, but they don't have money to contribute. at least some are now joining us in keeping the neighborhood clean.
Recently, it came to my mind that as we Proclaim Jesus Christ in the community through these outreach programs, God is creating a peaceful and joyful community around us.
Through Reydan's Well, God provides the community with safe drinking water. The strip lot besides it is always planted with vegetables that open the minds of the people that even a very small piece of land it can produce some food.
We thank God for you and the people of CrossWay for partnering with us not only in training the grassroots pastors and church workers here in the Philippines but also in our community outreach programs. Praise be to God!
Paul
Paul and Arcy Caampued will be visiting CrossWay for one-month next April/May.
