"Ground Zero" - Day 2

Thank you CrossWay for your constant and faith filled prayers. We would not be able to serve as effectively as we have been serving were it not for your prayers. We recognize that we are being empowered by God for the task He has called us to in the Philippines. We recognize that this is attributable, in a large part, to your prayers for us.

Let me recount some evidences of God’s grace. The team has served with joy, with graciousness, with effectiveness, with selflessness, with eagerness, and with a desire to give their very lives for this work. Besides a few stomach bugs and head colds, the team has been healthy and kept free from any major injuries on the job site which is quite dangerous. The construction has proceeded without incident, ahead of schedule, with our material supplies always on hand when needed. The team is serving as a cohesive unit with much joy, laughter, and care for one-another. We have effectively served our Filipino brothers as we consider ourselves servants on their job site. We have made great friends with our Filipino brothers and there is much joy and much laughter throughout our time together. We could recount to you many other evidences of God’s gracious presence in our midst.

Practically, we had another productive day today. The electrical work is almost complete. Gary Lewis and Micki Szabo installed a new electrical panel and connected all of the outlets and fixtures. So there is not only electricity though-out the building now, but the management of the electricity is much safer. The block work was much slower today. We are now working on the second floor. This means carrying concrete block, rebar, and cement up a ladder. The work is also slower because we are tying in more rebar and having to build around window spaces. Even with the slower pace, we have made more progress than we’ve ever expected in two days.

On a typical day, group devotions are at 6:00, breakfast at 6:30 and we are on the Jeepney by 7:30. We arrive at the job site by 8:00 and return at 5:00 with breaks at 10:00, 12:00, and 3:00. I think a few team members thought they were going to lose weight in the Philippines, but with food at every break it is highly unlikely. Paul’s wife, Arcy, and Milly have been preparing our meals and snacks on site with great joy, eagerness to serve, and thoughtfulness. Dinner is served at 6:30 and after dinner we have a time of fellowship: worship, devotions, and prayer.

The children on site continue to be a blessing to us. Whenever we are on break they gather around the front of the site and talk with us. One Christian girl sang a song for us today. The site is at an ideal location with this school across the street.

Please pray …

1. …for increasing sleep and continued health and safety for the entire team that is working together.

2. …for continued leadership for those who are managing the construction, wisdom in knowing how to build safely and soundly, and for efficient use of the labor on hand and the financial budget.

3. …for continued fellowship as a team as we hear one-another’s testimonies, work together, and serve one-another with words of encouragement.

4. …for increasing fellowship with our Filipino brothers and sisters in Christ. Pray especially for increased times of worship, prayer, and biblical encouragement for one-another.

5. ...for the effect of the gospel coming out of this building on the children who attend the school and their families. That many people would come to faith in Christ and be strengthen in their faith. That this place would be a city set on a hill.

6. …for our families back home, their safety and health, joy and gratefulness in their calling, vision for how they are serving the gospel in the Philippines, and fellowship with one-another.
