Philippines Update - October 2010

One year after typhoon Ondoy (international name, Ketsana) devastated Metro Manila and nearby areas, many people still have not yet recovered emotionally, and financially. This year we are spared from devastating typhoons unlike last year when in one month’s period 3 killer typhoons and floods hit the Philippines. We thank God for good weather this year.

PTC Seminars: The PTC Training Team conducted 8 seminars, a facilitators training, and leadership training from July to September 2010.

Immanuel Christian Church: Three seminars were conducted namely; Spiritual Maturity, Principles of Continues Spiritual Growth, and Practicalities of Continues Spiritual Growth.

Subay Assembly of God: Two seminars were conducted namely; Mastering the Basics of Bible Exposition, and Essentials of Biblical Leadership. Rudy Rabe and Ben Reyes led the training.

Church of the Good Shepherd: A Facilitator’s Training on Spiritual Maturity was conducted. The pastors were divided in 3 groups, each group will conduct seminar on Spiritual Maturity for their church leaders and members.

Central Philippines Baptist School of Theology: A seminar on Basic Principles of Bible Exposition was conducted. Most of the participants are bible schools students from 2 schools. Jeff Taclas and Marcelito Cagud led the training.

Servants of Jesus Ministries International: A seminar on the Gospel of Luke was conducted. Rudy Rabe and Julius Cacalda led the training.

PTC Center: A Leadership Training was conducted among the members of the PTC Team.

Other Activities:

Evangelism- Jesus Christ the Refuge and the Life Church under the leadership of Noel De la Cruz, one of the pastors regularly attending PTC seminars organized and conducted a gospel crusade “JESUS” in the town plaza of Tanay, Rizal. There was motorcade around the town proper, a musicale program in the evening. The preaching of the gospel message was the ‘main event’ where Paul Caampued preached an evangelistic message on “Jesus the Lamb of God”. There were more than 1,00 people who attended the event.

Community Outreach-

The PTC Team spearheaded a cleanliness program in the community around the PTC Center. The purpose of the clean up drive is to prevent the breeding of the mosquitoes so that the dreaded ‘dengue fever’ a mosquito borne killer disease which affects more than half million Filipinos every year can be prevented. So far no single case of dengue fever was reported in the community. The project was well commended by the residents.

Three community outreach programs are underway. One is the Food Production program under the ‘Food always in the home’ (FAITH) Garden. The idea came out after we planted vegetables in the plant boxes near the Reydan’s Well, and in front of the Center instead of flowering plants. This program will be implemented starting October. The PTC Director had made some agreements with lot owners regarding the use of vacant lots near the Center.

Another program is the ‘Re-greening of the Community’ a long term program that involves planting of hard wood species like mahogany, and narra along the roads in the community. About 400 seedlings will be brought in the Center to be grown in the black bags. The target date of planting is July 2011.

The third program is the Children’s Playground. The children around the community do not have a playground. An agreement between the PTC Director and the Community leaders had been forged. A portion of the Paenaan Public Plaza of about 100 square meters will be used as Children’s Playground. It will involve leveling the ground, overlaying it with gravel and sand, fabricating and installing swings, see-saw, slide, and monkey bar. The project cost is about US 2,000 dollars. The target date is sometime in April or May 2011.

Your partnership with us in this ministry of training grassroots pastors and church workers here in the Philippines through prayers and support is very much appreciated.
