Raising Up Christ Centered Leaders
Especially Among Muslims of Eastern Europe and Russia

On the Personal Front: Visit of a Lost Loved One
It so hurts… we so want to see Yulia’s mother and brother come to Christ. As the Keith Green song goes “we only want to see you there” in heaven. Yet, sharing the gospel with a loved one can be one of the most challenging tasks for a believer.
Yulia’s mother, Valentina, (Yulia and Valentina are pictured at left) came from Minsk, Belarus to visit us in Hungary. We had two significant spiritual conversations during our time together. We shared our great concern for her with respect to her eternal destiny. This imminent danger was like a giant wave crashing upon a lighthouse where on the land-ward side, the light house keeper stands outside and watches the shore. The keeper is unaware that he is about to be drowned. Lighthouse photo by Jean Guichard
Although our continuous witnessing to her is limited by great distance, we pray that the Lord would bring other believers across Valentina’s path. During the visit, we learned that Valentina has a peer back in Minsk who seems to be an enthusiastic believer who “constantly invites” her to visit her church. Please pray the friend’s efforts would help Valentina move closer to believing the gospel because “we only want to see [her] there.”

Raising Up Leaders who lead through Tough Conditions,
Cultural, and Doctrinal

Recently I have been put in touch with a struggling leader, in order to help mentor him through cultural and doctrinal challenges. He serves as the only full-time missionary in a difficult country with religious/cultural challenges and in a context with little or no healthy Biblical teaching (neither from church nor other mature believers). This lack of healthy Biblical teaching in conjunction with wrong teaching from the internet has really left him confused.
We have spent many hours in person and by phone trying to work through these challenges, especially the doctrinal challenges looking at passage after passage from the Bible. Sometimes it has been REALLY difficult. Please pray that this missionary comes through these challenges with deepened Biblical convictions able to lead through tough conditions!

Raising Up Leaders who
Train and Lead Others- Training Trainers

“Raising up leaders” involves training those who teach and train others, and especially those who train in the area of Bible and Theology. These gifted national missionaries need to be trained to study God’s Word in ways that will help them build a strong biblical and theological foundation in others “who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim 2:2) One of those helpful ways is the ability to study God’s Word in the original languages, especially New Testament Greek.
One student in my class, a Polish staff member named Robert, shared how he had been sharing the gospel with a Polish college student. This student was confused about a pas-sage from 1 John 3 which seemed to say Christians no longer sin, yet he knew of no perfect Christians. Robert said that if he had understood then what I had just taught him concerning the verb tenses of 1 John 3, this particular Polish college student may not have been so hindered in coming to Christ!! Robert now has greater confidence to lead from God’s Word, and to train others!

Raising Up Leaders to Reach the Muslim World-
Albanians Being Sent to the Muslim World

The Lord is fulfilling our dreams concerning Christian Albanians of Muslim background reaching the Muslim world. Although geographically distant, we are spiritually close and so encouraged to hear our “children [are] walking in the truth” (3 John 1:4), bringing the good news of Jesus to other Muslim areas/countries. And the number of “children” has been increasing! In the last weekly student meeting of the year, over 250 Tirana college students came, and four college students shared before their peers how Jesus had changed their lives.
The number of Albanians bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to other Muslim areas has also been increasing. Over 60 Albanian students and staff took part in Spring projects to several difficult Muslim areas/countries. Pray that many of them would return as one-year missionaries in order to continue the work they have started! Pray my training time in August with these Albanian missionaries and others would help continue what the Lord is so clearly doing!

Evan and Tosha
Our Family
Again, continue to pray for Yulia’s perseverance in speaking Russian to Evan and Tosha. Russian is part of our family’s heritage and the ability to communicate with Yulia’s side of the family is very important. We are hopeful that Yulia’s mother and brother who are not presently open spiritually would be reached by their nephews or grandchildren!
