The Mbandi Update from Kenya!

Dear CrossWay,

We greet you in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. We greatly thank God for the CrossWay Community Church faithfulness in partnering with us financially and in prayers. We also thank those who have continued to encourage us through emails and sometimes phone calls, though we have not been efficient in providing you with updates, as we should.

We thank God for good health and care, especially as we travel to different places for the Lord’s ministries. Those who have been in Kenya know that driving on Kenyan roads is a challenge. However, the government has promised to improve our roads and it is already working on many roads.

Family Update

We are doing well as a family. The boys (Joshua, John and Alex) are at home for short vacation. Joshua is in 9th grade and he will be going back to school on April 20th. John is in 7th grade and their class as well as 8th grade will be opening on April 17th for tutorial. Alex is in 4th grade. The daughter (Irene) of my deceased brother and his wife is in 7th grade and she is attending a boarding school. She will be coming at home for one week after which she will attend a youth camp for another week and go back to school. Her brother (Mutua) is in 5th grade and attending a private Christian elementary school and lives with his grand parents (Paul’s parent). Pray for God’s grace, wisdom and provision as we raise our boys as well as our late brother’s daughter and son.

Rodah Mbandi

Rodah is busier than she expected! She is involved at our home local church as the chairperson of women committee. She has also started a women self-help group (Glory Women Fellowship). The group is involved in promoting different self-help projects including helping the elderly and orphans. Rodah has been taking courses on part time basis at Daystar University toward MBA in Human Resource Management. She is also working and practicing her skills at a Co-operative Insurance Company near Daystar University in Nairobi. The courses have continues to build her confidence for participation in leadership and management seminars at challenging levels.

“Biblical Leadership”

On May 16th we will be have a leaders’ seminar at Bomani Africa Inland Church (the largest church in Machakos District). I will be speaking or focusing on “Biblical Leadership” and Rodah will be speaking on “Management of Church Resources.” Pray with us, this is a church with a great potential in terms of personnel and other resources which can greatly impact God’s kingdom if properly used. We are planning two leadership seminars in the month of June, but they are not yet confirmed.

Scott Theological

Scott Theological College is doing well. The students are on vacation until May 5th, however, the graduating class will report on April 20th to prepare and take their comprehensive exams. Therefore, I am busy marking last term exams and organizing for the comprehensive exams. We have just completed review of our curriculum, which was last reviewed in 1998. We are also changing from “terms” to “semesters” beginning from August this year. Pray with us for we are in need of two teachers for biblical studies and Christian education. I was planning to come to USA and visit our partners in the ministry, but I cannot do it this year, due to the preparations involved in the change from “terms” to “semesters.” Praise the Lord with us, our denomination (Africa Inland Church) will be ordaining me on May 24th.

Partnership Opportunities

We are encouraging churches and individuals to consider more partnership with Scott Theological College by being involved in following ways: short time mission trip to teach or participate in projecting(s) related to your expertise; supporting needy students with tuition scholarship; or supporting Scott Self-help Projects. In order to reduce the costing of running the college, we have four dairy cattle and banana farm, which provide milk and bananas respectively for the college use. We are planning to begin fish farm and poultry, but we need the initial capital. If the Lord is leading you to participate in one of the above ministry opportunities, please request us for more details. Send any support to:

As you pray in relation to the above update, please also pray for the following:
  • The unity of the coalition government (that is, between the Party of National Unity and the Orange Democratic Movement) which was formed in February 2008 in order to end the post election violence.
  • The provision of rains in most parts of Kenya, which have missed sufficient rains for three consecutive seasons, and consequently many communities and families greatly affected by famine.
  • Economic positive turn around, otherwise, the value of money has continued to go down here in Kenya due to high inflation. However, we are aware that this is a world wide problem.
Yours in the Ministry of Christ,

Paul and Rodah Mbandi
