Are you aware that you (and me) are part of the top 10% of the world's most wealthy individuals? Michael Oh in The Grace of God in Our Circumstances says,If you have the ability to eat three times per day and have shelter over your head, you are better off than many people in the world. If you earn $25,000 per year, you are the richest 10% of the world. You are rich. In fact if you earn $2,200 per year you are the richest 15% of the world. That's mind boggling. Brian Fikkert in When Helping Hurts says something similar,
The average American lives on more than ninety dollars per day, approximately one billion people live on less than one dollar per day and 2.6 billion people - 40 percent of the world's population - live on less than two dollars per day. -page 42More incomprehensible numbers. Needless to say, God has given us much and He did so not for our self-indulgence, but so that we would bless others. With wealth comes a stewardship responsibility. Granted the poverty level is different in the U.S. than in the rest of the world, but according to the U.S. census, 9.7% of people in Kenosha County are living below the U.S. poverty level.
Over the next two Sundays CrossWay is collecting food and basic living supplies for our local food banks. This is a great opportunity for us to bless others with the blessing that we have received from God, for His glory.
