Brazil 09 Mission Update

CrossWay is sending a short-term mission team to Brazil from August 8th – 18th. God is beginning to define a team from CrossWay. We currently have 15 team members and 2 applicants who continue to prayerfully discern God’s will for them.

Governador Valadares

We will be serving one of our mission partners, Nelson Salviano, who is a Brazilian pastor committed to training the poorest pastors in the shanty towns of Brazil. We will fly into Belo Horizonte, where Nelson lives, and then travel on to a city called Governador Valadares.

The Mission

Ultimately, our mission is to proclaim the glories of Jesus Christ to the people of Brazil. Our desire is to help the Christians in Brazil live in the good of the gospel and to help the local church reach unbelievers with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our agenda is not finalized, but we are talking with Nelson about doing some of the following initiatives.

  • Street evangelism with skits, tracts, preaching, and singing.
  • Caring for widows and orphans in the shanty towns of Brazil.
  • Hosting a time for the CrossWay ladies to care single moms.
  • Hosting an evangelistic sports camp for the youth in the shanty towns.
  • Preaching in several local churches every evening.
  • Training pastors who have had no formal theological education.
Prayer

Please pray for the following items as we continue to prepare to serve in Brazil.

  • Pray that God would identify and begin to build us into a cohesive team on the foundation of Jesus Christ.
  • Pray that God would use our team meetings to build team, humility, and faith as we prepare to serve in Brazil.
  • Pray that God would help us to raise the funds necessary to travel, cover ministry expenses, and bless the people in Brazil.
  • Pray that God would give us creative ideas on how to reach the people of Governador Valadares with the gospel.
  • Pray that the people, pastors, and Nelson would be eager to receive us and that God would give us sweet fellowship.
