Day 9 Philippines 2010

We praise God this evening! We are so grateful for the work He provided today and the strength He gave us to accomplish the work. With the setbacks Friday, and not being able to make it to the center on Monday, we were all hoping for an energetic, productive day. It was hard labor as a team of men mixed and poured concrete on the second floor. They had to carry buckets of gravel, sand, and water upstairs so that they could hand-mix the concrete themselves on the floor before spreading it out. Another group continued measuring, cutting, and hanging drywall on the third floor. Karen and I were sent to sand the plaster walls on the first floor. It is a privilege (and a humbling experience) to work alongside the Filipino’s at the center. They are diligent, and with great ingenuity; turning a piece of plastic tubing and a nail into a chisel, cutting glass and assembling their own windows on site, and turning rebar into clamps. They accomplish much with very little and are a very patient people in general. For lunch they served us a delicious sweet and sour fishball dish, rice, and papaya. Donnie claims it’s one of the best meals he’s had here. We ended the day as a team playing Hip Hip Hooray with the children who wait outside the PTC Center.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. All that’s been accomplished would not ha

ve been possible without your generosity. God has been providing the energy we need each day, but we ask for your prayers that we would finish well and not hold back as we serve these last couple of days.
Tomorrow, Paul wants us to work until noon and then get ready for the dedication service. We are hoping to spend some time with the children. Please pray that they (and their mothers who stand back and watch) would be drawn to Christ because of us. Please pray for the Filipino’s safety and wisdom as they continue to work in less than ideal circumstances (often without gloves or masks).
Thank you all again. It is a blessing to be here. We send you our love. Sincerely, Dana
